Founder's Vision
"From the quiet reflection of isolation came a voice, a vision, a vow: that every small action, united in purpose, can reshape our world. Together, we have the power to turn today's hope into tomorrow's reality."
--- Serene Duan, Santa Margarita Catholic High School
In the midst of the profound uncertainty brought about by the COVID-19 crisis, as the world was engulfed in sorrow, I found solace through introspection. Within this crucible of global upheaval, a realization emerged clearly: If humanity could come together in the face of such unprecedented adversity, could we not harness that same collective spirit to confront the imminent environmental challenges that endanger our planet?
History, policy, and education have not just been subjects to me; they have served as lanterns that illuminate patterns, forge bonds, and draw parallels from the past. Reflecting on milestones such as the Ozone layer crisis and the subsequent global unity observed in the Montreal Protocol, I have come to understand our unwavering capacity to bring about change. These are not mere pages in a book, but rather poignant reminders that when we unite with purpose, even the most daunting challenges can be overcome. However, as history teaches us, our race against global warming calls for even swifter and more concerted efforts.
The tale of Samuel Adams and the Committees of Correspondence, which I learned about in my AP U.S. History class, had a profound impact on me. These committees were more than just conversations about revolution—they represented the power of grassroots unity, organic movements, and collaborative efforts. They ignited the vision for YESAction, not as a mere entity, but as a vibrant, evolving movement. In the spirit of those bygone committees, I saw YESAction as a conduit, uniting the youth, bridging disparities, and cultivating environmental mindfulness.
YESAction's blueprint pays homage to historic assemblies. We have created a web of high school chapters, each unique but sharing a collective dream. In this environment, grassroots efforts converge with global ambitions, championing ecological preservation.
However, my aspirations for YESAction go beyond simply raising awareness. I envision it as a haven where revolutionary, eco-centric concepts are birthed, refined, and put into practice. While our environmental challenges may be complex, often, the solutions can be found in the fabric of our everyday choices and actions. And, when these endeavors are supported by education and guided by policy, their impact multiplies, leading to a world transformed.
